Prologue (2020)

stereo

Prologue began with a generative processes. An array of three just-intoned interval ratios were selected, and randomly re-stacked to create a finite set of chords over a fundamental pitch. This process was applied to sets of piano, cello, wind, and brass samples, continually cycling through the set of chords with different granular techniques added for time expansion and contraction. Synchronous granular processing also affected the timbre of sound events due to the imposition of artificial formant regions at high grain frequencies. Purely synthetic tones were eventually added, and these textures were further edited and combined to create the piece.
